The BAs were the first of our five teams in action this week, and had a tricky game away to second-place Ballinasloe A. Who play in Athlone. Naturally.
We had a full team going out – a huge plus for an away country game, when there’s usually one or two players who can’t make the unusual matchday plus 90 minutes’ travel either side – and came away with a 2½-2½ draw, keeping our 3½ lead at the top of the table intact. Eddie and Ed won, Brendan drew to move to 5/6 for the season, while Harry and Nicky tasted defeat. Ballinasloe A are about as strong as ourselves though, so the draw was pretty much as per the ratings. It would have been nice to stretch our lead at the top, but at least it hasn’t been cut.
Our next three games are all against top-half teams, so if we can keep the points rolling in, we’ll have a great chance of some silverware come season’s end.
