A quick note on the main changes brought in during the AGM last night.
- The Bodley Cup (Division 6) time control is reduced to 1 hour each. Games will still be rated
- The LCU is attempting to have the Ennis Shield FIDE rated. The plan seems to be to gradually extend that downward.
- Illegal moves in time trouble no longer result in the loss of the game. Instead, FIDE rules apply, which was interpreted to mean two minutes added to the clock of the opponent if you make an illegal move. (It’s a bit more complicated than that, and made more so by the absense of an arbiter at the games, but that’s roughly what it’ll amount to.)
- Finally, the new LCU constitution was brought in. The main change is some new roles on the committee, particularly an expanded committment to junior chess. On that note, we’d like to congratulate Maura Osborne on her new role as one of the union’s junior officers.
