Millfield wasn’t the only tournament on last weekend; the Manojlovics were among the biggest gainers in the Galway Congress.
Anastasija scored an impressive unbeaten 4/6 to gain 101 points overall and end only narrowly short of a prize. For the second time in six weeks, she met brother Mihailo in the last round – after winning in the City of Dublin, the game this time ended in a draw.
Mihailo for his part started strongly – he was one of five players on 2/2 – and though he didn’t win any more after that, 3½/6 is his best score in a weekender, and sees him gain 45 points.
Elsewhere, Ross Beatty failed to reproduce his form from the City of Dublin, scoring 2½/6 while constantly among the bottom boards. His dad decided to enter for the first time and did quite well, picking up 3/6 in the minors and getting a provisional rating of 798; he’s straight in at number 37 on the club ratings list.
