The O’Hanlon went down to a narrow 3½-2½ defeat away to Elm Mount tonight, having unfortunately had to concede a walkover on the bottom board.
Jamie Kearns’ second place was the highlight of a decent Kilkenny for St Benildus.
With 21 club games in the past four days, there was always going to be a couple of interesting positions. Here’s two that were sent in to us.
Newly re-formed Skerries Chess Club arrived at the club last night for a Bodley game boasting a 1480 on board 4 and with one 5-0 win already under their belts. Given that we had one player who’d ever played leagues before, and indeed only one player rated higher than 550, Skerries must have been confident of another 5-0 win. But the night didn’t exactly go as planned!
It was a case of same old, same old for the Heidenfeld last night. Missing half a team, out-rated by a total of 2512 points – a whole GM down! – we picked up five draws over the night and yet came away with the view that, with a little bit more conviction, we could have won the match outright.
We’re not even half-way through the season yet, but it’s possible Phibsboro have one hand on the Armstrong after a big win over St Benildus tonight.
After a few results from the Bodley came our way in the past couple of days, we’re able to post an almost complete league table.
The Bodley A won their second game of the season in perhaps slightly fortuitous circumstances this afternoon.
The updated league tables after the most recent round of games are available.
