John won tonight’s repechage blitz tournament, while Ciarán was deemed to be last after presumably succumbing to Real-Bayern-itis instead of attending the tournament he proposed!
In the first round, the winners went forward to play off for the top eight spots, while the losers played off for the bottom eight spots. In the second round, the winners in the top eight went on to play for the top four spots, while those losers played off for fifth to eighth, and so on. So if you lost your first game, the best you could hope to do was win your last three games and come ninth (well done Richard!)
It’s worth noting that, while the draw was open, it had a strong seeded element. David and Luke-Andrew were the only players from round 1 to enter the “wrong” side of the draw. In round 2, Luke and Mihailo swapped places, as did Paddy and Simon. So no-one else can use that as an excuse for your final placing!
Full results are as follows. The first named player had white, except for the last round, where colours were decided on a draw of pawns.
* – this game was a draw, but Luke is deemed to have won as the lower-rated player
