The last two games of round 2 took place last night, which means we now have a draw for round 3.
The first result wasn’t all that long coming in; 46 minutes to be precise. It was a fairly clinical win from Zdravko, who, after playing a bit quietly against Stephen and losing in the opening round, decided to go for the throat this time out. The final position (picture below) is fairly nasty; the faint-hearted shouldn’t click to zoom in!
That left Anastasija – who, curiously, was guaranteed to play Ross in round 3 regardless of her round 2 result – up against Mihailo, who would play Zdravko in round 3 if he avoided defeat. Zdravko knew this and, while I’m sure both are looking forward to the game, Zdravko did at one stage take out his phone and think about calling Mihailo, which would have given Zdravko a draw against, I think, Ger. Mihailo, it turned out, recorded a relatively easy win over Anastasija, who has a decent record against Mihailo, picking up two bishops for two knights in an open enough position and causing too many problems to deal with from there.
So it’s on to round 3, which will see everyone back in the one room next Wednesday. Two players have byes; the draw for everyone else is as follows –
