After great starts for the Armstrong, Heidenfeld and Bodley A, the O’Hanlon joined the Bodley B in having a decidedly slow start to the season.
Away to Celbridge, various issues meant we only travelled with five players, with one of those being Des Carroll, making his club debut. We beat Celbridge 4½-1½ in the O’Hanlon last year – and, it can’t hurt reminding, beat them 5½-2½ in the Heidenfeld last Wednesday! – so quite possibly Celbridge were out for a little bit of revenge in Kildare last night. They got it too. Des was nicely gifted a queen around move 8 – the leagues do get tougher!! – and last year’s board prize winner Eddie kept up his good form with another win, but Dylan, Nicky and sub Luke all lost, leaving us on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline. Next up is Dún Laoghaire on Wednesday fortnight – quite a tough game given they just beat Round Tower in their season opener!
