With a number of “irregular” players on the O’Hanlon squad this year, they’ll be looking for consistency over the season to try challenge for promotion – and an unbeaten first match is a decent start in that regard.
Brendan Cuffe made his first appearance in nearly 18 months – since an Armstrong game in Dún Laoghaire – and as in that Armstrong game, he took a draw. Granted, his O’Hanlon opponent was some 500 points lower than the Armstrong opponent had been, but that’s what rust will do for your game!
Desmond also picked up a draw in the only board we were out-rated on, while top boards Odhrán and Eddie, along with sub William (on time) all won. We ended up scratching board 6, but still, a 4-2 win is a nice start. The O’Hanlon host relegated Drogheda in the next round in what will be a bit of a logistical nightmare for the club as the BEA and Bodley travel to Drogheda and Enniscorthy on the same day!
