Tie of the round is the board 1 meeting of top seed Mihailo and last year’s runner-up, Luke-Andrew. It’s familiar territory for Luke-Andrew at least, who has now been unseeded on board 1 for the opening round three times! Odhrán, on the hunt for three-in-a-row, starts with a match against Diarmaid – a rematch of their 2014 round 1 encounter, a tough match which was the last to finish on the night. William v Declan is the only other match to have been played previously, with Declan winning in round 4 in 2013. There’s plenty of big ratings gaps in the first round, with Daniel having the “easiest” draw, being just 589 points out-rated, while one of the 9 debutants in the draw, Daniil, has the toughest task, facing a mere 795 point gap – almost double ratings – when taking on Dylan.
Round 1 starts at 7:30 this Wednesday. Do bring a pen!
