The 2016 running of the Mick Germaine Cup was held in the Ierne Sports and Social Club, Elm Mount’s premises on Sunday 11th December. It was the largest ever running with 27 teams coming from as far as Manorhamilton with Blanchardstown, Malahide and Rathmines making up the bulk of the teams between them. St Benildus also took part for the time.
In December 2013, the Heidenfeld were hammered 7-1 away to Rathmines A in a result which left the team with one foot in the Ennis. Almost exactly three years later, and another hammering in Rathmines sees them with one foot out of the division, this time in the opposite direction.
This Wednesday will be the last club night before the Christmas. It’ll be the first round of the 2017 Blitz Grand Prix, with registration from 7:45, and then six rounds of quick-fire action between 8pm to 10pm.
On Wednesday 14th, the club night will take place in the Mill House (for all those who are allowed to go!) from 8pm. The club will re-open on Wednesday 11th January with another triple header – both O’Hanlons at home, while the Armstrong travel to Blanchardstown.
In between times, don’t forget the Leinster Juniors in the Esplanade Hotel in Bray over the New Year – details are here.
The O’Hanlon A recorded a fifth win in a row and will be 2½ points clear at the top of the table for Christmas, while the Bodley, again struggling for players, went down to defeat in Rathmines.
In which Daniel Fox beat Henry Li, Tim Casey beat a Grandmaster…’s mum, and a Benildus player beat a Benildus player who beat a Benildus player who beat a GM.
