A reminder to all that the final round of the blitz grand prix will take place tonight from 8pm. Prizes will be given out straight afterwards.
St Benildus had, slightly curiously, plenty of success at the recent primary school finals.
St Benildus will have four of the six players on this year’s Stokes team – the Ireland U-12 team at the Glorney in Scotland – as well as both the named reserves.
The last few rounds of the leagues, the Paris tournament, Malahide, Ennis and others have all been rated – see where you stand in the updated club rankings.
The final round of the 2018 LCU Junior Grand Prix will be held on 20th May in Maynooth. Full details are here.
We had advertised earlier in the week that the last round of the Blitz Grand Prix would be next week. Instead, we’re going to postpone that one week – to the 23rd – in order to get in another coaching session next week. This time, Gerry will be talking through some basics in rook and pawn endings, which is pretty essential stuff for anyone who’s ever lost a drawn ending (which is most of us!)
We’ll be underway around 8:15, with the usual examples to play through afterwards as well. If anyone has any examples from their own games they want to look at, bring them up and we’ll try fit them in too.
Mihailo won his second blitz in a row, but Dylan’s fifth placed finish – his joint worst result ever – has secured him the overall grand prix trophy for the third year in a row.
The LCU AGM will take place on 13th June. Anyone wanting to submit a motion to the meeting can do so via the club committee before 23 May.
A reminder that the 2018 Blitz Grand Prix will be decided in the next ten days. Round 5 is on tomorrow night, while round 6 is on next week. The trophies arrived over the weekend, and will be up the club tomorrow.
