The action resumed last week in round 5, with the previous four rounds having taken place a month earlier, and as we noted then, we already had the U-12s wrapped up. The only question was which Benildus player would win; Thomas was knocked out of official contention after losing in round 5 to Carl, but the big game was in round 6, when Ben beat Lara to take a half-point lead at the top. He wrapped things up in the final round with a win over Carl to take the title on 6½ – only failing to beat Thomas – while Lara was just behind on 6/7. Carl came third on 4½, while Thomas was fourth on 3½ and Eric was sixth on 2/7.
We also topped the U-10s; Kavin was on a perfect 6/6 before agreeing a draw with Ryan in the last round, which saw him finish a half point ahead of Danny in second. However, Danny’s win over Lorcan in the final round denied us a double 1-2-3, with Lorcan dropping down to fourth in the final standings. Ryan finished bottom of the pile despite being the only person to deny Kavin a win!
Our only other player in the tournament was Leon, who was mid-table on 3/7 in the U-14s.
