Upcoming events

With the recent lifting of most covid restrictions, it seems over-the-board chess is finally about to return to normal after two long years!

The ICU calendar has a list of upcoming events – in addition to a blitz in the Talbot Hotel this Sunday, there are weekenders in Ennis (on the Bunratty weekend, as the Bunratty hotel is being refurbished), Galway and Coláiste Éanna in March, and a new event in IT Sligo on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The return of the club is pending the school’s own covid policies, and of course we do expect to be a little way down their list of priorities at present! In the meantime, we are looking around to try fid a suitable temporary venue to at least see if we can get the Blitz Grand Prix run for this year. More info when available.

Online junior coaching

Mark Quinn IM is arranging online coaching for juniors rated between 1000 and 1800 – there’s further details here if you’re interested. Mark is an Irish international with a wealth of coaching experience at all levels, so it’d be time well spent if you want to de-rust ahead of (hopefully!) the return to real chess in the coming couple of months.
