The final day of the leagues threw up more than its usual share of drama, with the results for Benildus being a best finish in 20 years, a record number of board prizes, a title play-off, and direct involvement in possibly the tightest finish ever seen in the Leinster leagues.
Round 5 of the Blitz Grand Prix was the biggest to date, with 37 players all told, and it also provided one of the tightest ever finishes with four players ending on 5/6, with Stephen being edged out on third tie-break.
The traditional double-header to end the Blitz Grand Prix has its first leg tonight at the usual time of 8ish. The last round and the prizegiving will be next week at the same time.
Tomorrow sees the finale of the 2018/19 leagues season, so it’s time for one last update of the past couple of weeks. So far, two board prizes have been won and one promotion is all but assured, but there is two more board prizes up for grabs, as well as a possible second promotion and even a title.
