A final board shoot-out between Leon and Ben saw the club retain the Leinster Intermediate title won last year, while there was some good performances in other sections as well.
There was no silverware for the club in the Irish Juniors this year, with two more runners-up medals and another defeat against a familiar foe to add to the collection.
The 2019 O’Connell Cup will be held from 12-5pm on Saturday 11th May in nearby Coláiste Éanna. A team of 4 can enter – players have to be under 16 and under 1200; time control is 20 minutes each for all moves. The club will cover the entry fee if anyone is interested in playing. For anyone interested, the Dublin Community Games chess competition takes place this weekend from 5-7pm on Saturday in the Parish Community Centre, Malahide.
The Irish Juniors are being held in the Talbot Hotel in Stillorgan this year; entry has recently opened on the ICU website. This is a great tournament for experienced players and beginners alike and well worth considering!
The team blitz tournament was hugely popular last year, and it’s back on the calendar this year; it’s on 3rd March in the Talbot after the junior coaching session. We’ll enter a team in this again if there’s interest, with rating deciding places if there’s more than 4 interested. If you are interested, just post here or ask up the club.
