The 2017 Mick Germaine Cup will take place on 10th December in the Ierne Sports and Social Club, home of Elm Mount Chess Club.
The inaugural St Andrew’s Classic is on in a fortnight’s time, from 29th Sept to 1st Oct. Although the league teams are now more or less set, this is a good chance to de-rust ahead of the league season. It’s as local an event as there is on the calendar, and it’s being run by Ross – so we’d strongly encourage as many as possible from the club to sign up! You can do so here
There is also a one-day funday on the Sunday for less experienced players; details are here
A new 6-round competition, the Dublin Summer League, will take place in An Óige, home of Phibsboro Chess Club, over June, July and August. For full details, see the tournament website.

Well done to Ben Murray, whose St Mary’s Haddington Road team won the newly-revived Interprovincial Primary Schools title in Gonzaga last weekend!
St Mary’s finished on 23½ points, 7½ points clear of nearest rivals St Conleth’s, after dropping just half a point over the weekend.
There’s ten Benildus players taking part in the Leinster championships in Malahide this weekend. Five are in the top section – Mel, Tim, Constantin, Zdravko and Mihailo, and all are seeded in the first round. Two are playing in the middle section – William and Seán, who between them won the bottom section and a grading prize in this section last year. And Danny, Bhudhav and Ben are competing in the bottom section.
You can keep track of all the results here. Best of luck to all!
Well done to Danny Kashanin and Thomas Cooney, Irish U-10 champion and U-12 runner-up respectively after a great weekend for the club in Sligo! In the U-10s, Danny only dropped half a point – a draw with the joint winner – en route to the club’s first ever title at this level, while Lorcan Cooney only lost to the two joint winners, including a final-round battle against Danny. In the U-12s, Thomas only lost to the winner Danny Dwyer, as did Ben Murray, who unfortunately also dropped one other point to end up on 4/6.
