The club’s new year resolution is to try follow on from our pre-Christmas lecture on Winning From A Pawn Up by making the talk a regular monthly event. So this Wednesday, John will be sharing one of his many dangerous opening weapons, the Grand Prix Sicilian. This will hopefully be of interest to anyone looking to add a lesser-known opening to their repertoire. We’ll be getting underway about 8:15.
There was a remarkable game played yesterday in the Chinese League between Ding Liren – who was at the European Club Cup with Benildus last month – and Jinshi Bai; it’s being hailed as one of the greatest attacking games for many years. You can watch through the game here; it’s well worth it.
The draw for the final round of the club championships, as well as the current standings (including tie break) is now available.
All three club championship debutantes fell to defeat as round 1 ended in pretty much the same way it started – with upsets.
