Ross Beatty is one of the 16-strong Irish contingent in Halkidiki in Greece for the 2015 World Youth Chess Championships, which start today.
Ross’ first opponent is a 2110-rated player from Monaco. Alex Byrne is in the same section – the under-14s – and plays a 2150 from Sweden in the first round. The top seed is Iranian Amim Tabatabaei IM, rated 2488 – presumably a name to keep an eye on in coming years!
